Count the opponent's passes and your own defensive actions in the pressing zone. The calculator divides one by the other.
How it works
PPDA is the opponent's passes divided by your defensive actions, both counted only where pressing happens: the opponent's own defensive 60% of the pitch in Colin Trainor's original definition. Defensive actions are tackles, interceptions, challenges and fouls.
What it does not tell you
PPDA measures how often a team engages, not how well. A side can post a low number by fouling a lot, and a compact mid-block that never lets the opponent pass forward can look passive. Providers also draw the zone differently, so only compare numbers from one source.
